Yong was invited by the Visual Art department of Lyndon State College in Vermont to give a lecture and presentation "The Creative Process of Children's Book Writing and Illustrating" to the faculty and students. With his latest picture books as samples, Yong shared his process of conceiving a meaningful story from one's own experience cultural background from children. Yong also shared and demonstrated his process of searching and illustrating and bring the stories to live and published.

During the month of November 2010, Yong's original watercolor illustrations from his picture book A Gift and selected artwork from Finding Joy were presented in the newly renovated art gallery in this college.
